Cumberland Building Society raid - CCTV images

Detectives have this afternoon October 25 released CCTV footage of the man who robbed a building society in Carlisle yesterday in the hope that someone will recognise him.

At 9.57am on Monday October 24 police received a report that a man had entered the Cumberland Building Society on Denton St in Denton Holme and demanded money from the cashier while threatening her with a knife.

The offender left the building with an amount of cash and ran down Denton St in the direction of the junction with Norfolk Street.

DI Raz Nazir from Carlisle CID is leading the investigation. She said: “We have been reviewing hours of CCTV footage and have released some clips this afternoon in the hope that someone will recognise the man responsible.

“The suspect is described as tall, medium to stocky build, wearing a dark hooded top made from a shiny, shell-suit like material, track suit bottoms and distinctive grey and yellow gloves with a blue or purple stripe on the wrist. He also wore a scarf or neck warmer that he used to cover his face when he entered the building society.

“You can’t see the man’s face in the CCTV, but he has quite a distinctive walk. I’m hoping that someone recognises him, or that witnesses who saw him may have a better description of his face.

“He was last seen running along Denton St towards the junction of Norfolk Street just before 10am.

“If you recognise this man, or saw him before or after the robbery, call Carlisle CID on 0845 33 00 247.”
