Cumbrian hotel invests in National Park's first electric car charging point

An award-winning four-star hotel in the heart of the Lake District National Park is investing in the park’s first electric car charging point in a bid to encourage sustainable tourism in the region.

Langdale Hotel and Spa, renowned for its outstanding eco-credentials, is installing the new charge point this week which will give all guests with electric cars free charging sessions.

To mark the occasion the Langdale is offering a complimentary night’s stay to the first five people who arrive at the hotel by electric car.

Dan Visser for Langdale Hotel and Spa, said: "While electric cars are still relatively rare, we're committed to doing all we can to encourage green alternatives wherever possible and believe that investing in these kinds of initiatives is the only way to make a long-term difference. We hope the new charge point will incentivise electric car owners to visit the area which would not have been feasible previously."

The new charging point complements the hotel's ongoing and substantial environmental policies which are acknowledged by its Gold standard Green Tourism Award.

Incorporating green thinking in to the day-to-day tourism trade is intrinsic to Langdale’s environmental policy and its forward-thinking approach has inspired  environmental guidelines such as supporting local projects and campaigns, sourcing recyclable, fair-trade and organic supplies wherever possible, planting native trees, protecting indigenous wildlife, and even training its staff in energy conservation.

The hotel has also installed several significant energy-saving devices on-site including a biomass carbon neutral energy system and a revolutionary UV system for its pool disinfectant.
