Work placement proves successful for Sellafield Skills Centre

Sellafield Ltd has recently taken part in a work placement scheme which is run by the Government, Job centre plus and local disability employment advisors up and down the country.

Duncan Rothery is partially sighted and has been for the last five years, he came to Sellafield Ltd and worked within the training department at the Sellafield Skills Centre as part of this scheme.

Les Agnew, Head of Training said: “Having Duncan working alongside the team was a valuable experience, not only for the team but hopefully for Duncan. Duncan faces his personal challenges with a positive and upbeat approach which is something we have all taken to heart.”

Duncan said: “I have enjoyed my time immensely and I’ve been able to put into practice what I’ve learnt at college.”

Carl Lewthwaite, Company Disability Advisor said: “This has been a great opportunity for Duncan and also us as an organisation. This opportunity has given Duncan a massive challenge, whilst removing all the barriers he faces in his general day to day life. Duncan has shown most importantly to himself that he can over come those barriers and challenges, this is all about trying to achieve independent living, both at home and within employment.”

Duncan added: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their friendliness and support whilst I’ve been on work placement, especially Michelle Cartmell, Caroline Easdon and Carl Lewthwaite.”
