Cumbria County Council have announced that Computacenter have been named as Preferred Bidder for the contract to deliver Cumbria County Council’s ICT services from 1 April 2012.
The contract, worth £10million in the first year 2012/13, has been awarded following an extensive procurement process. The contract is for five years and will start when the existing contract comes to an end on 31 March 2012.
The new contract supports the council’s ongoing plans to fully utilize new technology to improve access to and delivery of council services as well as the delivery and maintenance of the councils ICT systems, hardware and security.
Over the coming months the council will work closely with Computacenter and robust arrangements have been put into place to ensure that the transition runs as smoothly as possible.
Over the next few months Computacenter will be holding a series of events to talk to council staff about their ICT requirements and how they can support service changes going forward.
Cllr Liz Mallinson, Cabinet member and portfolio holder for ICT said: “This is good news for Cumbria County Council and for the people of Cumbria. The new contract has been designed in a way to give us complete flexibility, as both modern technology and the requirements of the county council will no doubt change over time.
We face significant challenges ahead, working in a climate where services need to be delivered with less resource. The use of technology can help us meet such challenges improving access to information, providing better support for our communities, not only making us more efficient and effective but crucially using technology to improve service delivery across all areas. I am therefore in no doubt that this contract will be a very successful one. That said all credit has to go to the current supplier who have served us well over the last five years and who have made a significant contribution to the councils improvement journey.”
Deputy Leader of Cumbria County Council Stewart Young said: “I am delighted that we have secured a new supplier to deliver the council’s ICT services. The new contract will provide a range of new support and technologies that will allow the council to continue to embrace the use of ICT in delivering its services now and in the future.”
