New partner at accountancy firm

James Cornthwaite has joined Lancaster Chartered Accountants Scott & Wilkinson, Dalton Square, as a Partner.
At the same time, the practice has promoted two of its existing accountancy managers, Alan Taylor and Susie Campion as Associates.
James joins Scott & Wilkinson from Moore and Smalley, Preston.  He joined the Preston office in 2005 and qualified as a chartered accountant in April 2009, subsequently qualifying as a chartered tax adviser.  James lives in Hambleton, Poulton-le-Fylde.
A former pupil at St Aidan’s C of E High School, James attended Blackpool Sixth Form College and Lancaster University, graduating in 2004, gaining BSc. first class honours.  Apart from his general accountancy and tax work, James has been involved in developing and promoting his previous employer’s farming and rural business sector – a role he will also take on at Scott & Wilkinson.
He said: “I have always been interested in finance and business and in particular in the agricultural industry.  I enjoy the first hand exposure that accountancy gives and the opportunity to meet clients and help them achieve their goals.”
The new Associates, Alan Taylor and Susie Campion have both worked with Scott & Wilkinson since the mid 1990s qualifying as Chartered Certified Accountants in 2002 and taking on managerial positions within the firm.
A former pupil at Ripley St Thomas C of E High School, Lancaster, Alan joined Scott & Wilkinson direct from school in 1994 and qualified as an Accountant in 2002.  As practice manager, his role includes responsibility for the firm’s computer hardware and software as well as monitoring potential new software and industry developments.  He also manages the firm’s VAT and book keeping department and is the firm’s Sage specialist.
Married with three young children, Alan lives in Bare, Morecambe and is interested in all sport, but especially football, golf and cycling.
Susie started her career in accountancy direct from Lancaster Girls Grammar School, joining Scott & Wilkinson in 1995, after a period working in another local accountancy practice.
After qualifying as an Accountant in 2002, Susie became a manager, looking after her own clients, training staff and dealing with all aspects of accountancy, tax and audit.
Susie lives in Lancaster with her family and enjoys holidays and socialising.
Partner, Stuart Hinnigan said: “These changes will serve to strengthen and improve the range and quality of services we are able to offer our clients.”
Footnote: James Cornthwaite’s family farm carries around 300 Holstein dairy cows, 200 young stock, 200 beef cattle as well as finishing store lambs.
He said:  “I am always willing to help out with milking when short staffed and at busy times such as silaging.  Besides finding the work rewarding it also allows me to keep fit and balance the time I am sitting behind a desk.”
