Legal firm sponsor Women in Business Cumbrian awards

Awards for women in business across Cumbria are announced today to showcase the contribution they make to the economy and commercial diversity of the county. Three categories will be judged before presentations at a glittering Cumbria Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Conference and Awards lunch in partnership  with Baines Wilson LLP, the commercial law firm based in Cumbria.

It will be held on November 15 at the Low Wood Bay Hotel, Windermere. The awards are open to any women in business within Cumbria, whether
they operate as a sole trader, a partnership or part of an organisation.. They are not restricted to any specific-sized company, industry or sector.

Joanne Holborn, a partner at Baines Wilson LLP and Head of Employment Law and Training said: “Women play a vital role in the economy of
Cumbria, as more run and launch their own businesses. These awards not only represent a celebration of the positive impact of business women but also as an inspiration for others to take their ideas to market.

“Nationally and internationally women are playing a bigger role in the boardroom and the Cumbrian business community has seen a great expansion of female led businesses, from food production to fashion, finance to manufacturing and construction. In every business sector more women are taking an active role, and these awards highlight their achievements.”

The Cumbria Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Conference and Awards pay tribute to the thousands of businesswomen across Cumbria
who are playing an active role within businesses, or who are running their own companies.

They play an invaluable role in both recognising success and inspiring other women in business within Cumbria.

A spokesperson for the Chamber said: “This is the third year we have run the annual Women in Business Conference and the second year we
have held the awards and the Chamber is thrilled that they have gone from strength to strength.

“Along with Baines Wilson LLP, sponsors for this year's Women in Business events, conference and awards we are looking forward to some
outstanding entries as these awards champion the Cumbrian business community, showcasing and
celebrating the achievements of talented and inspirational women whose business success is helping to lead us out of recession.

“This year's conference is entitled 'Inspirational Times, Inspirational Women' and features women who are influencers, innovators, and inspirations in the business community; women that are realistic about what is happening to the economy, but still optimistic regarding the future.”

The categories this year are:

1. Cumbrian Business Woman of the Year

2. Cumbrian Start-up Business Woman of the Year

3. Cumbrian Innovative Business Woman of the Year

Last year’s Cumbrian Business Woman of the Year – Sally Fielding of Sally’s Cottages said “I would encourage any business woman who
believes she is going above and beyond, to enter themselves into the Chamber awards. Winning the Woman’s Business Woman of the year award in 2011 certainly
increased my public profile, gained me publicity and ensured more awareness of my business.”
