Cumbria Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Conference and Awards Lunch

Cumbria Chamber of Commerce and Baines Wilson LLP have partnered in an event that pays tribute to the thousands of businesswomen across Cumbria who are playing an active role within businesses, or who are running their own companies and whose determination and success help to drive the Cumbrian economy.

‘Inspirational Times, Inspirational Women’, the Cumbria Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Conference and Awards Lunch, takes place on the 15th November 2012, at the Low Wood Bay Hotel, Windermere 10am to 5pm. Speakers at the event include Jackie Arnold, responsible for financial governance and for strategy at BAE Systems Submarine Solutions and vice chair of Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership; Melissa Burton, Managing Director of locally based Goody Good Stuff, named 2011 Best Entrepreneur in Europe, the Middle East and Africa by the American based global Stevie awards for Women in Business; Maria Whitehead, MBE, who following the devastating Foot & Mouth Disease set up Hawkshead Relish with her husband in 2001, growing the business from making 12 jars of relish a day to around 2,000, with sales throughout the UK and the world- and Board member of Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership;
Karen Todd, Director of Recognition Brand Communications who has worked for leading Brand and Marketing Communications agencies for over 15 years, developing communication strategies and collateral for international brands such as BSkyB, Orange, HSBC, P&G and Clarks; and the ladies from the Baines Wilson team who will presenting an interactive session ‘‘Women in the law and a legal quiz’.

Commenting on the speakers Catherynn Dunstan, Events Development Manager for the Chamber says ‘All of these women are influencers, innovators, and inspirations in the business community; they are women who are realistic about what’s happening in the economy, but still optimistic for the future. They are dynamic and dedicated women with particular areas of expertise, committed to both businesses and community.’

Apart from the speakers the event will also include a business exhibition, marketing clinics presented by the Chartered Institute of Marketing, a Changing Tables Networking session, fashion show by Gabrielle Couture, the singing talents of Miss Cindy Hoten and the Cumbria Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Awards Lunch, with awards going to the Business Woman of the Year, Start-up Business Woman of the Year and Innovative Business Woman of the Year.

Suzanne Caldwell, Head of Communications and Business Services for the Chamber said ‘This is an amazing opportunity and a very functional platform for women running and working in  established, young and start-up businesses to meet and network with other Cumbrian business women, be inspired by success stories and enjoy a day celebrating being a woman in business in Cumbria.’
