Lovers of the dramatic landscape of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty have a chance to join the classic linear walk ‘Across the Nick’ from Cow Green in Teesdale to Dufton in the Eden Valley taking in the spectacular High Cup Nick on Saturday 8 October 2011.
The walk will be led by Mark O’Keeffe, experienced walker and professional tourist guide. A compelling interest in all things geological, historic and natural, combined with a quirky sense of humour make Mark the ideal companion for a thoroughly entertaining and fascinating adventure in the wild and beautiful North Pennines.
Mark said: “I’m passionate about the high moors of the North Pennines and spend nearly all of my spare time there. I hope to share my passion for the area and I would hope that other people will become as addicted to the stunning North Pennines AONB as I am. And the best way to do that is to go out and get your boots muddy!”
He added: “The fact that the area is also a European Geopark is an ideal excuse to focus on the rocks under people’s feet, the shape of the hills and the appearance of fabulous features like High Cup Nick.”
The 17 km (11 mile) walk is graded hard, and full hill walking kit and packed lunch will be required. The cost of the walk is £18 which includes a minibus trip from Dufton to the start at Cow Green. Walkers are to meet at 9am on Saturday 8 October at Dufton car park (GR NY690250).
Booking for this stunning walk is essential. Please contact the North Pennines AONB Partnership on (01388) 528801.
