Sharing Stories on a Sunday at Penrith Library

Starting on 30 October 2011, Penrith Library will be hosting a new activity for children who love books and reading. Sharing Stories on a Sunday is a series of weekly reading groups for children aged between 5 and 7 that will take place every Sunday afternoon from 2-3pm in the library until 4 December 2011.

With the help of young volunteers from local secondary schools, children can share their favourite stories and books with the group and take part in lots of other fun activities during each session.

Cumbria County Council’s Senior Librarian at Penrith Library, Deb Holden, said: “The overall aim of the campaign is to encourage children and families to use the library on a Sunday during the winter, this would also help develop children’s interest in books and reading.”

Each child taking part will be given a card and at the end of every session they will be given a sticker for their card and a small reward. If they attend all six sessions they will be presented with a certificate at a special awards ceremony in the library on Sunday 11 December 2011.

Children should be accompanied by an adult.
