Swimming Club to bring the “King of Swing” to Kirkby Stephen

Kirkby Stephen and District Swimming Club’s Fundraising Committee are bringing internationally acclaimed Frank Sinatra tribute artist Anthony Adams to Kirkby Stephen Grammar School in December to raise much needed funds for the popular community swimming pool.

Adams who finished as runner up from thousands of contestants on the BBC’s “The One and Only” show began  his musical journey as a bass player and vocalist in 70’s band ‘Metro, touring with Dire Straits in Europe. But Anthony had a life-long interest in the music of Sinatra and on his return to England in the 80’s and 90’s he sang with various swing bands learning the craft.

Acknowledged as one of the best and most accurate tributes to Frank Sinatra in the UK and Europe today, Anthony Adams burst on to our TV screens in 2008 on BBC One’s prime-time television show ‘The One and Only’. The TV show hosted by Graham Norton, set out to find Britain’s viewers favourite tribute act and reached weekly audiences of 7 million plus. Anthony was voted through the 6 weeks by the public, to the final. Finishing runner-up out of thousands of applicants, Anthony sang and appeared in the mode of ‘The One& Only’ Frank Sinatra with Ol’ Blue Eyes’ classics, ’Come Fly With Me’, ‘The Lady Is A Tramp’ and ‘New York, New York’.

Since Anthony’s performances on national TV as Frank Sinatra, he has toured in ‘The Rat Pack, taken his own show ‘Sinatra – The Vegas Years’ around the UK and worldwide, appeared at the London Palladium and has performed regularly at 5 star Mediterranean resorts and most recently with P & O Cruises (Carnival Group) around the Caribbean.
