Lights, choirs, action

School choirs from across the region will be competing in a live choir sing-off, before being joined by Santa and his elves, led by huskies, to switch on Rheged’s Christmas lights!
Local school choirs including Penruddock, Langwathby, St Catherine’s and Hunter Hall will be venturing on stage to give their best rendition of a Christmas carol in a bid to be crowned best Christmas choir of the evening and win a private screening for a film of their choice at Rheged’s 3D cinema.

After last year’s lights switch on extravanganza, with over 2,000 people visiting Rheged to catch a glipmse of Mr Clause, he is making a return visit and will once again press the big red button to light up the centre and his faithful husky companions Tikaani, Chance and Ice, who are Alskan Malamutes and professional sleigh racers will be pulling him in on his festive sleigh.
The Fairly Famous Family, from Ulverston, who are a magnificent touring theatre act will also be performing a whole host of festive fun activities including a stage performace of “Just in Case” a classical caberat juggling act with a few festive twists like juggling balls of holly and a flaming Christmas pudding!

There will be entertainment for the whole family and Christmas treats a plenty, including pigs in blankets, mulled wine and delicious warm mince pies! Whilst the adults do a bit of Christmas shopping, the children can hunt for a special prize on the free snowflake trail, decorate their own Christmas bauble to take home for their tree or write a letter to Santa himself and post it in the special Rheged post box and we're pretty sure they’ll get a reply!
The switch on will take place on Sunday 20th November, 3.00pm - 5.00pm and entry is free.

To celebrate the start of Christmas, Rheged is also running an online competiton to win £50 of Toy Shop vouchers. Simply visit www.rheged.com and enter your details to be in with a chance of winning.
