Upper Eden Community First Responders and Kirkby Stephen mountain rescue team up for vehicle rally

Not long till Easter and the 14th Classic Commercial Vehicle Rally held on Easter Saturday
and Sunday in Kirkby Stephen and Brough.

This year, as in 2011, members of the Upper Eden Community First Responders and Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue teams, will be teaming up at the Mountain Rescue Base at Christian Head in Kirkby Stephen. There will bea bouncy castle for the children, a beer tent, teas and coffees, bacon butties and homemade
cakes, plus a book stall to raise funds for both organisations.

Along with the in house climbing wall, where visitors can try a bit of supervised “mountaineering”, members of both organisations will be available to demonstrate the use of life saving equipment and answer
questions on the equipment, experiences and enquiries from anyone interested in joining.

Both the Mountain Rescue and First Responder teams are made up of local volunteers and
rely totally on voluntary contributions, so all visitors are welcome to enjoy the refreshments
and entertainment and give their support. First Responders have recently taken delivery
of a training defibrillator, courtesy of a £250 donation from the Cumbrian Chief Constables
Property Fund and they also recently welcomed a newly “trained” responder, retired local
GP, Dr. Carl Hallam. Both Upper Eden 1st Responders Team Leader Rob Ewin and Mountain
Rescue Deputy Team Leader Steve Howarth said, ‘ this promises to be a great weekend for
both organisations, See you there’.
