A specially commissioned piece of choral music received its live premier in Eden.
The Easter Anthem Love’s Young King was commissioned by the BBC as part of their Easter Passion project and choirs across the UK have registered on the Radio Four page of the BBC website to download the music and take part in the nationwide singing event.
The community choir set up by musician Barbara Gilbertson in 2007 is open to anyone regardless of their musical ability or age. They were invited to singing live on BBC Radio Cumbria’s Sunday Breakfast Show with Richard Corrie to help launch collaboration between Radio 4, BBC Religion, Radio Drama and BBC Local Radio - The People’s Passion – Sing it with Passion.
Middle Eden Voices Choir are one of only two choirs in Cumbria to take part. And they gave the first live public performance on Wednesday, March 28 at an informal concert at their rehearsal venue, Long Marton Community Primary School near Appleby.
Barbara said: “It is a very challenging piece, and everyone has worked very hard on this, and we were delighted to have reached the stage where we were ready to perform Easter Anthem to an audience.
“We wanted to say thank you to Long Marton School for providing an excellent venue for our rehearsals, and decided this was a great opportunity to hold a special concert to feature Easter Anthem.”
