Flags for the six districts of Cumbria have been created by the Amazing Art Project for the Cumbria School Games later this month. They are based on the winning designs chosen from some 300 entries from school children across Cumbria. The flags exhibit the Olympic and Paralympic colours and values.
The Amazing Art project is open to young adults as a mental health and wellbeing project, engaging them in high-quality art and film projects.
Amaze is a mental health service for young people (aged 14 to 35) provided by Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
Lucy Johnson has been a member of the Amazing Art group since it was set up two years ago. Together with her colleagues she worked solidly for three days to complete the flags.
“I have really enjoyed working on the flags – especially choosing colours and materials to reflect the children’s designs,’’ Lucy said.
The Amazing Arts group are supported by Cumbrian community arts company New Arts North. Celia Burbush of New Arts North said:
“It was great to work on the Cumbria School Games flags and our Amazing Arts group thought that the designs that came through were exquisite. Some of the illustrations were fantastic and you could really tell a lot of thought had gone into them. “
The Amazing Art group is open to young adults and aims to provide high-quality arts activity to assist with mental health and wellbeing. If you are interested, the group meets at the Whitehaven Civic Hall in the basement studio every Wednesday afternoon. Please ring Celia Burbush on 07799627804 or email her on celia@newartsnorth.co.uk
