Rotary Club of Appleby welcomed a new president at their meeting on Wednesday at the Tufton Arms Hotel in the town.
At the Rotary meeting on Wednesday June 27th President William Patterson handed over his chain of office to incoming President for the Rotary year 2012/13 to Bob Earnshaw. In addition, Guy Heelis took on the roll of President Elect for the Rotary year 2013/14 and Jonty Rostron was elected Vice President .
Williams Pattersons year as President had been very successful and busy with almost £14,000-00 having been raised for the following good causes;
The Great North Air Ambulance ( £1,880-00), Appleby Grammar School, Appleby Primary School, Aquabox, Shelterbox ( £2,960-00), Appleby Community Sports Hall, The Appleby Fun Run raised almost £3,300-00 for primary schools in the Eden Valley, Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue Group, Appleby Grammar School South Africa Trip, Thinking of you at Christmas ( Gifts to the over 80’s) , Young Enterprise competition at Appleby Grammar School, Bolton Nursery school, Eden Community Outdoors, The British Heart Foundation, Liver North Cancer Unit At the Freeman Hospital ( £1,880-00) , Community Action Nepal, The charity CRUISE , Mission Aviation Fellowship, Heart of Eden Newsletter production, Appleby Scouts, Appleby Heritage Centre Engineering Course ( £1,000-00 ).
In addition various community work has been undertaken in the area. The first fund raising event of the new Rotary year will be the 25th anniversary Rotary Fun Run which takes place on Sunday 1st July which raises funds for the local schools.
The incoming President for 2012/13 Bob Earnshaw is looking forward to another successful year and is hoping to support The Calvert Trust charity as well as the Scouts and to continue the support for the International work done by Rotary under the Polio Plus campaign in order to eradicate the disease from all countries.
