Wind power seminar for farmers and businesses in Cumbria

Leading renewable energy firms Myriad CEG and Northern Power Systems have joined forces to give farmers and rural businesses in Cumbria the full facts about the benefits of wind power. They have organised special wind turbine seminars in Penrith on Thursday July 19.

Guests at the free events will be able to talk to the experts about what wind power can bring to their business and get detailed information on a range of issues, from planning to finance. Two sessions are planned at the North Lakes Hotel on Ullswater Road. The morning event runs from 10am until noon and the afternoon session from 1pm-3pm.

A series of presentations are planned at the seminars, which will look at the benefits of wind turbines from 11kW to 500kW.

They include how and where to site a turbine; planning and grid connection applications; self-finance, bank finance and land rental and the economic benefits including energy generation and Feed in Tariff rates.

Myriad CEG is one of the UK’s largest renewable energy suppliers with a technology portfolio that ranges from wind to solar PV, biomass, heat pumps and wind turbines.

The company installed 50% of the UK’s Northern Power Wind Turbines last year from Cornwall to Dundee.

Phil McVan, managing director of Myriad Wind, said: “The seminars are an excellent opportunity to give people all the facts they need to make informed decisions about renewable energy and the benefits it can bring to their farms and rural businesses.

“The economic pressures facing farmers in the UK are enormous. Growing numbers are looking to use their farm assets to generate a livelihood - using their land differently so they are not at the mercy of a volatile market.

“One of our customers with a 5.5m/s wind speed site, owns a 100kW Northern Power wind turbine that he expects will earn him £80,000 per year. Another in a higher wind speed site expects to earn over £100,000 a year.”

“People who come along will be able to listen to the experts to get the full facts – including generation figures, costings and projected earnings.

“They will also get information on planning and grid connection as well as Feed in Tariffs.

“It will be of great interest to those who have land they feel is suitable for a wind turbine to either buy for themselves or where they’d like to rent the land to a company to put a wind turbine on their land at zero risk to the farm.”

The Penrith events are part of a series of national roadshows that Myriad CEG is organising to inform as many people and businesses as possible about renewable energy’s benefits.

Events are planned across Britain, including Devon, Somerset, Nottinghamshire and Hampshire.
