Penrith on a Plate celebrating the best food in Eden

A recipe for a wonderful day out: 21/22 July - Penrith town centrebTantalise your taste buds at Penrith on a Plate this weekend on 21/22 July, with a free food event, which is promoting the exceptional chefs, best producers, suppliers and retailers from across Eden District to local people and visitors.

Throughout the town centre local restaurants and cafes will be taking to the streets with samples of their fine fayre for you to try, with music and entertainment for all food lovers to enjoy.
 
Foundary 34 is one of the eateries taking part in the event, Manager Dan Harding said: Penrith on a Plate is playing a vital role in promoting the town, bringing in tourists and supporting the local economy.  I am looking forward to event as it will showcase the really good food that Eden has to offer.”

The Starter 21 July, 10am-4pm. Tasters and samples from local eateries with musical entertainment and street acts. Involved are:

The Main Course - Sunday 22 July from 10am-4.30pm, with has ingredients to keep everyone happy! Come and join in with:

Local Chef Demonstrations – Between 10am- 4.30pm in the Bandstand using local produce and wonderful easy recipes
Joining in are Peter Sidwell (top chef who has published four cook books and starred in the TV show ‘Lakes on a Plate’), Annette Gibbons (Cumbria Woman of the Year 2006, star of ‘Home Grown’ TV show and champion of Cumbrian food) and John Crouch (another top chef currently working on an Alston Youth Project and renowned local food demonstrator), Yelly de Jong from Cook in Cumbria and Purple Sage Catering.

John Crouch is one of the chefs taking part in the cookery demonstrations at Penrith on a Plate, he said: “I have been supporting local produce for the last 30 years; it is always a pleasure to be involved with and support events that promote the high quality food and drink offer we have in Cumbria.”

You can pick up a Penrith on a Plate programme including a range of special offer vouchers from Penrith Tourist Information Centre (TIC) on Middlegate. “We are delighted that Penrith on a Plate is showcasing the huge variety of food offers that available in the town and surrounding area,” said Charlie Thornton – Eden District Council’s TIC Network Manager. “It will be super to see the town full of culinary delights and TIC staff be doing all they can to wet people’s appetites in the run up to this special weekend.”

Penrith on a Plate is a project part financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Europe investing in rural areas, which is managed by DEFRA. The Vitality of Penrith Group and Eden District Council is working with local businesses and attractions to improve the vitality of the town centre by hosting more events.
