Eden Foodival announce McFly support act – The Alleys – to headline

On Sunday 26th August 2012, the market town of Brough in Cumbria will host the first Eden Foodival and its fun-packed programme of family entertainment and cooking activities were announced today.Event hosts, Patricia and Philip Jones, of Swanson House restaurant, say:“Eden Foodival will offer everything from a circus to a brass band; from face-painting to tap-dancing; from cake decorating to cocktail making... We are also delighted that up-and-coming band, the Alleys, will be closing the show, following their recent performance in support of McFly at their Glasgow concert.”

Alongside a ‘pop up’ parade of the area’s top restaurants, ticketholders to Eden Foodival will enjoy demonstrations from some of most talented local chefs. Demonstrators will include Sharrow Bay-trained owner of Mrs Miller’s Culgaith, James Cowin; owner of one of the country’s most beautiful country homes’, Wendy Bennett of Augill Castle; co-owner of a new Appleby delicatessen, Karl Phillips of Ruby’s.

Gemma McKaskie, Food & Beverage Service Manager of the Westmorland Hotel (one of the featuring restaurants), said: “We are delighted to be part of Eden Foodival and looking forward to sharing our knowledge of local ingredients and cookery with visitors to the event. It will be such a great opportunity to showcase the best food and entertainment of the area. We are looking forward to a great day!”

At the heart of the event will be the main stage, hosting a range of acts, including the Lux Vivo Circus, Disturb Reality magic, the Big Jam Band from Kirkby Stephen Grammar School, Tappin’ Toes dancers and folk guitarist, Graham Ferguson. Headlining the entertainment will be up-and-coming indie, rock and pop band, The Alleys. Lead vocalist and song writer, Jonny Foster, said:
“We are really looking forward to performing at Eden Foodival and being part of the start something huge for Cumbria’s entertainment scene. We want to end a great day with a bang!”
The Alleys won a BBC Radio 1 competition earlier this year to be perform as the support chart-topping pop band McFly at their Glasgow gig.

In addition to the entertainment on the main stage and in the demo kitchen, new Cumbrian company, The Cake Workshop, will be running cake decoration courses throughout the day; the Appleby Scouts will be running campfire cooking demonstrations all day; and there will be a packed programme of activities in the children’s Teddy Bears’ Picnic tent - make a cress-head, dip a marshmallow or three in our chocolate fountain, make a ice-cream sundae with Brough Ice Cream Parlour, decorate a cupcake with Appleby Bakery or learn about little furry friends with Llama Karma Kafe.

Eden Foodival’s full range of attractions include a colourful parade of ‘pop up’ restaurants; a diverse farmers market of local producers; the Foodival Cooking Academy; the Nine Standards Brewery Beer Tent and Lakes Distillery Gin Bar; the Teddy Bears’ Picnic Tent; and the Eden Foodival charity cookbook, in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance.
