The Lakes Free Range Egg Company (the Lakes) from Stainton, near Penrith, sponsored the James Martin demonstrations at the Taste Cumbria Food Festival last weekend. The event was judged as a resounding success, both in creating awareness of their free range egg brand ‘Laid With Love TM and in the huge number of eggs sold.
The Lakes provided Laid With Love eggs for all the cookery demonstrations which included James Martin and Simon Rimmer joining forces with local talent Simon Rogan, Peter Sidwell and Stephen Doherty.
James Martin used eggs in three of his dishes including a Watercress soup with a deep fried egg as a centrepiece. Chatting to David Brass after his first demonstration, James learned about the environmental provenance of the eggs and the marigold extract included in their feed. David Brass said “James was very enthusiastic about our eggs – especially their very golden yolks. When you saw his finished soup dish, the vibrancy of the yolk really stood out.”
David Brass said “This is the first food festival we have taken part in and it was a great way to get feedback on our product – consumers really love the pink packaging and we sold pallet loads of eggs! There were huge crowds on the Saturday and most of the local Eden producers we spoke to sold out. Sunday was pretty wet but it didn’t dampen spirits and many producers were up on last year’s event – that in itself is very encouraging given the weather and the economic climate.”
Organisers of 2012’s Taste Cumbria Food Festival announced the highest visitor figures ever. Approximately 25,000 visitors poured into Cockermouth last weekend to an event fast establishing itself as a food lovers’ paradise.
