200 exhibits expected at first Classic Vehicle Show - 24th June

An audience of over 1000 people is expected to attend a new Classic Vehicle Show in the Lake District on 24th June.  Windermere and Ambleside Lions are hosting their inaugural Classic Charity Vehicle Show at the Sports Ground, Grasmere on 24th June and have already attracted 200 exhibitors who will be proudly displaying a wide range of veteran, vintage and club vehicles, including classic cars, motorbikes, trucks and even tractors.
A star attraction will be the presence of the Western Star steam engine from Broughton-in-Furness, and the event has also attracted some very rare Vincent motorcycles.  Prizes will be awarded to the public’s favourite vehicle in each category.

The event promises to be a great family day out and there will also be all sorts of other attractions, including a bouncy castle, Lakeland Segway and the Dalesway Jazz Men for audiences to enjoy.  Entrance costs just £5 per adult (over 13 years of age) with family tickets (2 adults and any children under 13) available for just £12.00

Anthony Harrison of Windermere & Ambleside Lions Club said “We’re expecting a bumper turn out to our show on 24th June as there’s already been a huge amount of interest from the public and exhibitors.  We also hope to benefit from the sheer number of visitors in the area that weekend, with the Olympic Torch Relay celebrations and the Great North Swim also taking place.  The show promises to be a great day out for all the family.”

Windermere and Ambleside Lions have raised funds for local, national and international causes since 1974 and all proceeds from this event will go to the Lions’ charities, with a specific donation to St Mary’s Hospice in Ulverston.   The Classic Vehicle Show is sponsored by Lakeland Ltd, Heart of the Lakes Holiday Cottage Company and the Wordsworth Hotel, Grasmere with donations also received from Hackney & Leigh Estate Agents, Hayes Garden World and the Cumberland Building Society.

There’s still time to register vehicles in the show, and anyone interested should visit the website - www.lakes-classic-car-show.org.uk – or contact Anthony Harrison on 015394 32330 or by e-mail to cars@windermere-ambleside-lions.co.uk.  Members of the public can just turn up on the day and pay on the gate.  The show runs from 10 am until 4.30 p
