Dramatic interlude – 3-day Keswick Youth Theatre Summer School recruiting now

At the end of this month, Theatre by the Lake will be holding a Youth Theatre Summer School for youngsters aged 10 – 14 with an interest in theatre and drama and the good news is that there are still places left!

The Keswick Youth Theatre Summer School will be held on Wednesday 31 August, Thursday 1 September and Friday 2 September from 10am to 4pm. It is open to young people aged 10 – 14 with an interest in theatre and drama and costs £30 for the three day course. The Summer School will be held at Rawnsley Hall on Main Street in Keswick.

Participants can expect to make new friends and learn new skills and activities will include story making, choral work, movement and improvisation. The three days of workshops will culminate in a live piece of theatre which will be performed to family and friends on the final day.

The Summer School will be led by Theatre by the Lake practitioners, Jeff Wallcook and Jenn Mattinson.

Jeff said: “It’s always fantastic to see young people working together to explore, create and perform live pieces of theatre. Their energy is contagious and their friendships heart-warming.

“Young people sometimes get a raw deal and are often portrayed in a negative light by some parts of society, but there are so many young people that have a passion for learning, sharing, and making the most of opportunities and life.

“Theatre helps every one of them find their voice and have their say in a creative, fun, and supportive environment and the Keswick Youth Theatre Summer School intends to do just that. Over the three days, participants will explore, create, develop and perform various theatre skills. Characters will be born, worlds will be created and stories will be told. Although the workshops will be challenging and hard work they will centred on fun, excitement, and satisfaction.”

Places on The Keswick Youth Theatre Summer School are limited and must be booked in advance by calling 01900 870111. Participants are asked to bring a packed lunch, plenty to drink and comfortable clothes.
