Thousands of brave swimmers will be making a huge splash this summer at the UK’s biggest outdoor swimming event in Lake Windermere. The British Gas Great North Swim is taking place between 22-24 June 2012 and will see over 10,000 swimmers taking on the half mile, one mile or 2 mile open water challenge.
Macmillan Cancer Support is urging locals to join in the fun and raise money for vital cancer support services. Sue McDonald, Fundraising Manager for Cumbria says “this is a fantastic event for those wanting to do something different. It’s a great opportunity to swim safely in the beautiful Lake Windermere whilst also helping us to support those affected by cancer.”
With the event taking place over three days, there will be lots going on for all the family including the chance to watch some of the world’s top swimmers competing.
