The River Eden flooded in Appleby at midnight. Appleby Fire and Rescue service were called to The Sands in the town to pump water collecting behind the flood defenses which was backing up from the drainage system as the river eached its peak.
The Environment Agency gave the all clear at 5.45am but has put the river on Flood Watch at Appleby and Bolton.
Cumbriapolice are reminding motorists to drive carefully due to localised flooding and standing water across the county.
Officers have advised motorists to slow down, allow extra space for braking and not to drive through flooding unless you are sure that your vehicle will make it through.
