Westmorland MP Tim Farron formally opens Swedish company Billerud’s new boiler plant at their paper mill in Beetham, which represents a £1 million investment in the site.
The paper mill at Beetham has produced paper for more than two centuries. Today it produces paper for health care packaging, food packaging and other types of industrial purposes.
Tim said: “I am delighted to formally open the boiler plant and welcome more investment in the South Lakes. We are working hard to buck the trend and make our area an attractive place for companies to come and invest. This money follows news that we convinced the government to provide £2.75million for Gilkes in Kendal which will allow us to unlock £70 million of extra private investment. This is all a part of an ongoing campaign to bring jobs and investment to our community.”
Pru Jupe, Councillor for Arnside and Beetham is extremely pleased with the new installation, she said: "Billerud has been the most important employer in our area and the nature and level of this investment bodes well for their future of Billerud and Beetham. Not only is this a more efficient system and therefore cleaner and greener, but it shows a future commitment by the company to continue to provide much needed employment for our local people."
