Fed-up singletons in Cumbria could find it easier to find love this year. New Cumbrian events company, Boo Events, headed up by Leah Davies, 29, is staging the first of a new series of Cumbrian Speed Dating events in 2012.
The first takes place in Carlisle on Thursday February 9 at The Andalusian in Warwick Road, from 7pm – a few days before Valentine’s Day. Business graduate Leah from Keswick, is seeking 15 single guys and 15 single ladies aged between 24 and 35 to take part.
Leah says the new calendar of Speed Dating events will be the first to purely focus on match-making in Cumbria. And with 2012 being a Leap Year – it could prove to be extra special for single people countywide. At the moment, single people from the county have to travel to places like Newcastle to take part, but finding a prospective partner who lives so far away isn’t ideal either.
Leah said: “If you’re single in Cumbria it’s very hard to meet people. It is a big county and meeting someone in a nightclub or a bar isn’t always conducive to romance. Lots of single people in Cumbria are turning to the internet but many of them don’t trust it because they cannot be sure the person is who they say they are.
“With regular speed dating events in Cumbria, at least it offers the potential to meet in a nice, relaxed and safe environment with the right people.”
Leah plans to host similar events all around the county in places like Kendal, Cockermouth and Barrow, for a variety of age ranges too. Speed dating see each participant given a name badge and a scorecard. Each person gets three minutes with their prospective date and a chance to meet 15 potential people.
If the scores match both individuals will be contacted by Leah the following day to see if they want to swap telephone numbers.
