Carlisle by-election announced

A by-election has been announced for Cumbria County Council's Castle electoral division in Carlisle on Thursday March 1st.
The notice of the by-election follows the death in November of Cllr Jim Tootle.
Deputy Returning Officer Jason Gooding (City Council Town Clerk and Chief Executive of Carlisle City Council), gave formal notice of the by-election on January 20th, stating that nomination papers must be delivered by noon on Friday 3rd February 2012.
Polling hours will be between 7am and 10pm. The count will take place on Thursday, 1 March 2012 and will be held in the Civic Centre. Counting will start after the votes have been verified. Results are expected to be announced from around 11pm.
Total number of eligible voters: 4,537 (final figure Thursday, 16 February)
The deadline to register in time for the election is midnight on Wednesday, 15 February
The deadline for new postal vote applications is 5pm on Wednesday, 15 February
There will be five polling stations at the following locations: St Cuthbert’s Court, Fusehill Street; Deaf Vision, Compton Street; West End Temperance Hall, Hawick Street; Wigton Road Methodist Church and Newtown School, Raffles Avenue.
