MORE than 100 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts all enjoyed a Fun filled day in the woodland at Ratlingate Scout Centre. All who took part were from across Reivers District (Carlisle and surrounding areas); there were a number of different courses set up by Neil Saunders and a group of volunteers to accommodate the differing abilities of every section.
Harry Atkinson, aged 9yrs of 3rd Carlisle Cub pack said “The cycling was great fun and with the track getting muddy it was really challenging, but great to get dirty”
Jordan Iveson, aged 12 yrs of 13th Carlisle Scout Troop said “This was my 5th time cycling, I really enjoy the Scout course as we get to use parts of the woods we didn’t as Cubs, I really enjoy the challenge”.
Tom Galloway a Leader at 1st Border added: “Coming together with all section form the District is eye opening, it’s great to see how many new faces there are and how Scouting is growing. There are trophies but it’s all about taking part and coming together with other Scout from around the District to have Fun.
After several heats, finals were run and the winning team of these were the overall winners on the day.
The winners were – Beavers- 1st Rockcliffe
Cubs – Dalston
Scouts – 13th Carlisle
Explorers – Border ESU
Alan Saunders of 18th Carlisle said “More and more we are hearing of Scouting events which are taking place in and around Carlisle, it give me such a feeling of achievement to be part of Scouting in Cumbria which is growing and giving so much to the young people from all our local communities”
