Communities planning to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee and Olympic Torch Relay in June could benefit from a cash injection for their event from Eden District Council’s Community Fund. The Community Fund is intended to support and develop community initiatives, including one-off events, with a maximum of £2,500 available for events.
Applications are invited from community groups and town and parish councils. The deadline for submitting applications to the Community Fund is 30 March 2012 and decisions will be made on 26 April 2012 (applicants will be informed shortly after).
Eden District Council’s Communities Portfolio Holder, Councillor Mary Robinson said: “The Diamond Jubilee and Olympic Torch Relay in June are once in a lifetime opportunities. It would be wonderful if Eden people were to get involved and organise an event their village or town can be proud of. I would encourage community groups to submit a bid to the Council’s Community Fund to make their event one to remember.”
The Community Fund runs throughout the year and not just for one-off events. Projects which establish a sustainable community enterprise are also eligible, with a maximum award of £10,000 available. Subsequent deadlines for applying to the Community Fund will be publicised on the Council’s website once they become available.
