Flooding hits transport links

Flooding in Carlisle has brought down part of the wall supporting the railway line and there are no trains heading north from Carlisle.

A supporting railway overhead power cable pylon has partially collapsed and if falls completely could affect the sewerage pipes running along the River Caldew.

There is also flooding in Devonshire Walk car park in Carlisle.

In Kendal, the River Kent is running high but below recorded highs. Ellis Butcher who provided these photographs of the river said: "The river levels here are a long way off highest ever levels recorded in 1831, 1861, 1927, 1954 and 1898."

Wasdale Head Inn has put out a warning to not attempt Scafell Pike as Wastwater has burst its banks and the road is flooded.
