Eden households joining in with bag it, box it, recycle it

Eden District Council has praised local residents in the area for embracing the authority’s new Bag and Box kerbside recycling scheme, which started on 2 July 2012. The new recycling scheme covers the whole of the District, meaning some additional 2,500 homes now have kerbside recycling provision, which will hopefully help boost the area’s recycling rate in the future. 

Eden District Council’s Environment Portfolio Holder, Councillor Mike Tonkin said: “It is great to see so many households participating in the new Bag and Box scheme in the first two weeks. Rolling out any new service to 25,000 households in a rural area was never going to be without its teething problems, so I would like to thank residents for their patience as our new contractor Cumbria Waste Recycling (CWR) rises to the challenge of delivering this service successfully.

“The Council’s recycling team and customer services staff have done a sterling job over the past few months communicating the roll out of this new scheme to residents. Equally, the drivers and management at CWR deserve praise as they are working extra hours to ensure any delayed or missed collections are sorted out as quickly as possible. Once these initial glitches are overcome, I am confident the contractor will be delivering a service that benefits households across the District.”
