Penrith Rugby Union Football Club has called upon the Lakes Free Range Egg Company (The Lakes) and their egg brand ‘Laid with Love’ TM to try and crack the world record for the longest throw of a raw egg. It is just one of the events taking place at the Rugby Club Family Fun Day on August. 4
The Laid with Love TM eggs are from free ranging hens and have only travelled from Stainton, so Penrith Rugby Club is hoping they are in with a chance of beating the world record for throwing a raw egg to a partner who must catch it unbroken – the record currently stands at a massive 98 meters.
Organiser of the event Spike Johnson said “we saw The Lakes win two Businesses in the Community Awards and thought they would be interested in sponsoring our event. They have been very supportive and are looking at the best eggs for the task. The eggs have very yellow yolks so any not caught properly will certainly be seen. We are currently working with the Guinness Book of Records to make it an official attempt.”
Mark Gaskin, MD at ‘The Lakes’ said “ We see this as a very positive and fun way to support a club that encourage people to be fit, healthy and active. As well as a good diet, exercise and fresh air are very important – for the rugby teams and for our hens. The challenge of throwing and catching an egg longer than a distance of 98 metres is tough, but will be something worth watching on the day and we hope to see lots of people having a go at the record.”
The club has grown so much in the last few years - they now have a number of teams both at senior and junior levels. The money raised from the Fun Weekend will be shared between Great North Air Ambulance and help towards the running costs of the club.
