Police appeal after burglar disturbed in Workington cafe

Police are appealing for witnesses and customers to come forward with information after an offender was disturbed during a burglary in a Workington café yesterday. It is believed that a male entered the Vulcans Lane Café in Vulcans Park, Workington between 5pm and 8.30pm on Tuesday 4th September 2012.  The owner of the café locked up the premises at 5pm but returned to the property at around 8.30pm after he was contacted by someone reporting suspicious activity around the building.

The offender was then disturbed by the café owner and the male was seen to leave the property via a window. It is believed that the offender hid himself in the premises prior to closing time at 5pm.

He caused damage to property while attempting to steal items from inside. He tried but failed to make off with the safe but successfully made off with various low value items including keys.

Police are appealing for anyone with information or any customers who were in the café around closing time and saw a male acting strangely to please come forward. If you have information that may help police, please contact DC Carolyn Orr of Workington CID on 101 or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
