Ghosts and ghouls return for Penrith’s 2012 Halloween Festival

On Saturday 27 October, between 10am - 4pm, the streets of Penrith will be filled with spooks, spectres, zombies and witches! The annual Halloween festival has grown year on year and delighted many visitors, so Eden District Council are doing it all again!

Local businesses are being invited to take part in the event; those participating already include the George Hotel, the Devonshire Arcade, Penrith Co-op and Eden Local. There are also a host of opportunities for the community to get involved too. This year will feature fun workshops for kids, a ghost hunt around the shops, fancy dress competition for any age and a photography competition for the experienced and non-experienced snapper. 

Throughout the day, the streets will also be alive with street acts, music and even headless horseman carriage rides! Anyone who would like to entertain visitors is welcome, they need to contact Annabel Candler, Town Centres Officer for Eden District Council. Many groups have been involved in the past and found it great fun!

Annabel said: “Each year the event has grown and we have been overwhelmed with how much people like to get dressed up and take part. This year we want as many people as possible to be involved, we are even trying to get a few big surprises together! For those that are interested in the spooky stories of Cumbria, we are even having talks and tours to really get you spooked! I'm looking forward to it already!”
