Police are appealing for help in tracing a vehicle which is believed to have failed to stop at the scene of an accident.
At 7.25 am this morning, Friday 18 November a serious road traffic collision occurred on the A595 Thursby near to Michael Kings Jewellers.
This was ahead on collision involving two cars, a black Renault Clio travelling south along the A595 towards Wigton collided with a silver Peugeot 206 van travelling in the opposite direction.
All three emergency services attended the scene and the road was closed for 2.5 hours whilst police carried out an investigation.
The driver of the Renault Clio, a female, aged 23, from Carnforth was taken by Air Ambulance to the RVI Hospital in Newcastle with serious injuries which are not thought to be life threatening. She had two passengers in the car, both females, aged 21 and 23, who were taken to Carlisle Infirmary with minor injuries.
The two male occupants of the Peugeot 206, the driver, aged 34 and passenger, aged 16, were taken to Carlisle Infirmary with minor injuries.
PC 691 Mark Ormerod, from the Roads Policing Unit, said: "At this time we are looking at the possibility that a third vehicle was involved prior to the Renault Clio colliding with the Peugeot 206 and then failed to stop at the scene. We believe this vehicle drove off in the direction of Carlisle.
"Anyone who was on this stretch of road at that time, who may have seen the vehicles prior to the collision, is asked to contact me at Cumbria Constabulary on 0845 33 00 247."
