Two Carlisle men arrested in connection with serious assault

Detectives in Carlisle have arrested two local men in connection with a serious assault that occurred outside a nightclub this week. A 22 year old man and a 23 year old man, both from Carlisle, have been arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent. The arrest follows an investigation that was launched after an assault occurred on Lowther Street, Carlisle close to Club 35 and Concrete night club between 3am and 3.10am Wednesday 30 May 2012.

Two males and the victim, a 28 year old man from Carlisle, left Concrete night club and on leaving, the victim was punched. He fell to the ground and the offenders continued to assault him by stamping on him. He was left unconscious with head injuries at the scene. He remains in hospital in a stable condition today (Friday 1 June).

After the assault the offenders made off towards Lonsdale Street. They are described as white males of slim build approximately 5'10 on height.  One offender wore beige coloured trousers with a checked top.  The other offender wore a white top.  Both described as being in their early 20s.

Detective Constable Andy Lamb said: “At the time of the assault there were people leaving Concrete so we know that there are people out there who saw what happened. We are continuing our investigation and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. We really need to speak to you.

“The two men who have been arrested this week have been interviewed by detectives and released on bail while enquiries continue until 28 June 2012.”
