Detectives investigating Carlisle robbery release description of offender

Detectives in Carlisle have today released a description of a man who committed a robbery in the city on Sunday evening in the hope that the community will come forward with information. Just after 6pm on Sunday 29 July, a male went into Bell’s off licence on Orton Road and demanded cash from the staff. He is described as white, in his late teens to early twenties, of a medium build with a local Carlisle accent. He was wearing dark tracksuit bottoms, a black hooded tracksuit top with white piping on the shoulders and the front. He wore a white t-shirt underneath.

He had his face covered and made off with around £100. It is believed he used a pedal cycle to travel to and from the scene which is described as a mountain bike with black handle bars, black grips and wheels and with a black and white frame.

No weapons were seen during the incident and no-one suffered any injuries however members of staff are understandably shaken by their ordeal.

Police officers, including dog handlers, were immediately deployed to the scene to search for the offender and make local enquiries.

The investigation is continuing and officers are appealing for anyone with any information or who witnessed the incident or a male riding away on a pedal cycle from the vicinity of the shop, to please contact Carlisle CID on 0845 33 00 247 (while 101 repairs are carried out).
