For the first time a Plankbridge Shepherd's Hut featured on the Beetham Nurseries stand at this years Holker Garden Festival 8-10th June. The bespoke hut, made by Plankbridge Hutmakers based in Dorset, is carefully based on the proportions and structure of the Victorian originals, but with insulation and detailing usually seen on a modern timber frame house.
The hut, which features hand forged iron work and solid cast iron wheels, was brought up to Cumbria from Dorset on a specially converted trailer to take the 2.3 metre width; in turn Beetham Nurseries converted their own trailer to transport the hut from the Nursery in Beetham to the Holker Garden Festival show ground.
A display of home grown herbaceous perrenials surrounded the hut, which was a big attraction for the crowds at the show. Stephen Abbit, owner of Beetham Nurseries said ' Back at the Nursery the hut will be our Plant Information Centre, where customers can talk to a member of our plant team, who will have reference books available and access to the internet; this will make it faster and more efficient to solve plant queries. It is a wonderful quality product, in keeping with our ethos of good quality and value for money in every aspect of our business.'
The hand made hut will be available to view at Beetham Nurseries, Pool Darkin Lane, Beetham, Nr Milnthorpe, LA7 7AP; call 015395 63630 for more information.
