K Village has been given the go-ahead to slash parking charges in the run-up to Christmas – enabling people to park for up to four hours at Riverside Place for £1. The move, which has come into force immediately and applies until the end of December, follows discussions with K Village’s management company, South Lakeland District Council and Kendal Futures, Kendal’s Regeneration Partnership.
Mandy Dixon, General Manager of K Village, says, “We know parking is a big issue for Kendal and has been brought up time and time again by both local shoppers and visitors to the town. So we’ve been really pushing over the past couple of months to get car parking charges lowered for a trial period.”
“This is a really timely announcement following the investment in the pedestrian link from K Village to the Town Centre, through Kirkland and now Highgate. It means visitors can not only take their time exploring K Village, but can leave their car while they meander along Riverside Walk and visit attractions like Abbot Hall Art Gallery and the Quaker Tapestry Exhibition Centre as well.”
“It’s further good news for the outlet after a series of successful family events over the summer. A bumper Bank Holiday weekend followed by a highly successful Mintfest including Richard DeDomenci’s Mint Igloo resulted in one of the best end to the holidays and the Back to School push since 2004.”
The £1.00 parking charge will apply for cars spending up to 4 hours at K Village between now and 31 December 2012. The car park has 24 hour security including an onsite Security Team and CCTV monitoring.
She added: “Car park numbers and the duration of stay will be monitored closely and the figures evaluated and shared with Kendal Futures, so that the impact and benefits of the scheme can be evaluated as part of a package of measures to encourage both more local visitors and people from further afield to explore both K Village and the other attractions in the town.”
