Gas leak at processing plant puts 10 in hospital

Ten workers were taken to hospital with breathing difficulties after a leak at a gas processing plant in Barrow. Centrica said the workers from the plant were taken to hospital "as a precaution" after breathing in fumes from a leaking pipe.
A spokesman said most of the workers had now been released from hospital. He said one of the plant's three gas processing terminals was closed but there was no risk to the public.
An investigation is taking place to establish the cause of the leak.

The Centrica spokesman said: "It is likely the workers breathed in exhaust fumes from a stack pipe which would not have been pleasant.

"One terminal is closed and the plant is safe and secure. Most of the workers have now been released from hospital."

The plant processes Irish Sea gas and feeds it into the National Grid.
