Heading for national public speaking finals

The Greysouthen YFC junior public speaking team from Cockermouth  have represented  Cumbria in the Northern Area competition at Bridlington. After their best performance to date, they came second and will now compete at the national finals in the south of England later this year.

It is a huge success for the county and comes in the 75th year of the clubs history. Whilst members have competed at national level for stockjudging, this is the first time in many years that the club will be represented in the national Public Speaking competition.

The team, who all live in Cockermouth and attend Cockermouth School, consisted of Chair person Natalie Errington (15), speaker Jack Hird (13) Elliot Malloy (14) who gave the vote of thanks.

Club Secretary Rob Graham said “They seem to improve on every performance.  Jack Hird’s talk on butchery was described as informative and full of humour, he seemed to have the judges on side very quickly. Natalie and Elliot also gave their best performances and we are really pleased that they have done so well – we wish them good luck in the National finals.”
