Woman airlifted to hospital after crash closes road

A two car crash on the A595 at Winscales near Workington has closed the road this afternoon. One woman has been airlifted to hospital after the collision.

 

Firefighters cut two casualties free after the two-car and a female driver of a red Seat Ibiza is being airlifted to hospital in Preston.

An ambulance service spokesman said the 43-year-old had pelvic and abdominal injuries which were not thought to be lift-threatening.

The woman driver of a Ford Focus and a male passenger from the Seat have been taken to the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.

The extent of the' injuries are not known.

The road is blocked and drivers have been advised to find alternative routes. Cumbria Police's traffic team said  the road could be closed until early evening.
