Police in Workington are investigating an assault which occurred shortly after 7:30 pm last night (Monday) The victim, a woman aged 33, was driving her car between Stainburn and Brigham in the direction of Cockermouth. As she passed a lay-by she was flagged down by a man and she stopped to offer assistance.
On stopping, the man entered her vehicle and told her to turn around and drive towards Workington. In order to make the her comply the man pulled her hair. The man was taken to Workington and got out of the car in the area of Stainburn roundabout. Apart from the shock of the incident the female was uninjured as a result.
Police are seeking to trace the male concerned who is described as male, approximately 20 years old, not a local accent, 5’9’’ tall, slim build, with short dark hair wearing black trousers and a black jacket with a hood.
DCI Keith Capstick said: “We are appealing for witnesses to help us catch this man. He has somehow got to the lay-by in the first place and someone may have seen him or given him a lift before the incident.
“He left Stainburn on foot sometime between 7:45 and 8:10 pm and someone may have seen him. The victim is obviously shaken by the incident after she had stopped as a Good Samaritan.
