Police in Keswick and Cockermouth have received numerous reports today (19 June 2012) from members of the public who had been a victim of crime by thieves stealing belongings from unattended vehicles.
Three offences have been reported in the car parks in Keswick and Cockermouth, where property such as handbags, mobile phone, sunglasses have been stolen from unattended vehicles. As a consequence extra police officers will be patrolling car parks to deter any opportunistic thieves and will be giving advice about security.
Inspector Dennis Kelly said: “We will be out on patrol in the car parks in Keswick and Cockermouth in order to deter opportunistic thieves. However, I encourage people to be more vigilant, don’t leave personal belongings on show, make sure you lock your car when you leave and together we can reduce the opportunities these criminals have in turning people into victims of crime.”
